About

Bundaberg Now is an initiative of Bundaberg Regional Council to provide a free online platform for publishing news that’s relevant to the Bundaberg Region.

The primary focus of the platform is to provide an engaging space to update and inform our community about Council services, initiatives and events.

It allows us to communicate directly with residents and ratepayers as a one-stop shop for residents to freely access stories and videos produced by Council.

It will continue to be a place where community groups and other local organisations can share their news and relevant updates however any non-Council content is required to be contributed.

Any local groups or organisations without the resources to produce their own story or ‘media release’ can contact Council’s communications team at brccommunications@bundaberg.qld.gov.au or by calling 4130 4268 for assistance.

The community is encouraged to keep in touch with Council by following the Bundaberg Now website, Facebook and YouTube and registering to receive Bundaberg Now e-newsletter updates.

Contributed articles that we will generally publish (as resourcing allows) include:

  • Items that are relevant to the Bundaberg Region from local organisations, businesses and individuals.
  • For business stories: we won’t publish product promotions, name changes or relocations but we will accept news about a new business opening, awards or expansions, changes and staffing that are significant in nature.
  • For fundraising stories: we don’t have the capacity to run all fundraising stories about or conducted by individuals, but we will accept stories about fundraising initiatives coordinated by groups, businesses or organisations through which the entire community can take part.
  • Sporting results, events and news from schools, clubs and community groups that can be contributed.
  • Community service announcements.
  • Photos of community events or those that promote a positive image of the region, such as the #lovebundy pictures on Instagram.

Items that we generally won’t publish include:

  • Court and crime reports.
  • Politics.
  • Investigative journalism.
  • Negative stories.

There are reputable media outlets in Bundaberg that do publish those things and we acknowledge the important role they play.

We don’t seek to displace them, but to add to media diversity and provide a platform for many public-interest stories which previously weren’t published.

If people disagree with the views expressed in an article, or want to express an opinion, they may do so in the comments section or contact us.

Please note: The views, opinions and facts contained within contributed community content are those of the community member or organisation submitting the article or information and its publication on this platform is in no way confirmation that this reflects the views, position or endorsement of Bundaberg Regional Council.
