The Bundaberg Library recently procured a Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset, developed by Facebook Reality Labs, which is available for use by the community.
This headset is a standalone unit, which does not require a PC, that delivers a greater level of immersion using its cameras to enable controller-free “hand tracking”.
Most VR headsets require the user to hold controllers to track hand movement and interact with the virtual environment, but this headset uses four cameras to precisely track user hand and finger movements.
This really gives the user the sense that they are actually in the virtual environment.
The headsets are currently featured in a number of the libraries youth-age programs and there are further plans to use it in future adult digital-literacy sessions.
If local groups would like an opportunity to see this headset, you can get in touch with the library to make a booking on 4130 4140.
