Get your running shoes ready, it’s almost that time of year!

The Bundaberg Sugar Cane2Coral Fun Run or Walk is almost here and the 10th annual event is set to be bigger and better than ever before.

The launch of the community race was held on Monday, with president Jason Pascoe announcing registrations were now officially open.

This year, Mr Pascoe said as many people as possible were being urged to sign up.

“To date we have had 18,000 participants cross the finish line,” he said.

“Our goal is to crack 20,000 participants in 10 years.

“We really hope the community gets behind us and we have an absolutely fantastic day!”

Mr Pascoe said event-goers could expect the same tracks of 4km, 10km and 21.1km lengths with some pumping music and entertainment to help set the pace along the way.

“There will be ribbons for each of the different races and we are really looking forward to handing those out,” he said.

“The medallions were a huge success last year and this year we have a very special anniversary medallion which is being supported by Bundaberg Sugar.”

Mr Pascoe said more than $10,000 in prizes was up for grabs for those participating.

“There is certainly the opportunity to run or walk away with some great prizes,
he said.

Cane2Coral gala event

As part of fundraising efforts for the event, a gala cruise will be held on Saturday, 13 July.

Mr Pascoe said participants would enjoy an afternoon/evening cruise down the Burnett River aboard the Lady Musgrave’s Main Event.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun and a great time,” he said.

“We will be cruising from the town centre, out to the port and into the Burnett Heads harbour to watch some amazing fireworks.”

Cane2Coral success over the years

Mr Pascoe said in the decade that the fun run had been held, the event had grown exponentially.

“We had a really successful run last year with a 12 per cent increase in participants from the year before,” he said.

“One in four of our racers were from outside of town, which was fantastic for the local community, bringing people into Bundaberg- the greatest place on the planet.

“We had 53 teams register and we hope we get lots of teams again this year.”

Mr Pascoe said the Bundaberg Sugar Cane2Coral Fun Run or Walk would not be possible without the help from those involved.

“Through all of the efforts of our sponsors and the community we were able to raise $46,408 last year and this year we want to raise the bar to over $50,000.

“This money goes directly to local charities throughout the region and to date, we have proudly raised over half a million dollars in nine years.”
