Local cuisine, live music and a fantastic atmosphere will have the community chilled out by the beach for the region’s official Australia Day celebration on Wednesday.
Hosted by Rotary Club of Bundaberg City Daybreak, friends and families will come together to take in the beautiful summer weather at Nielson Park from 1 pm to 6 pm.
The free community event will showcase some of the finest food the region has to offer, including ice creams from Mamminos and a selection of treats from Nana’s Pantry.
Attending the Great Australian Bites Australia Day event for the first time to showcase Australia’s premier nut, Macadamias Australia will be serving delicious Bauple rolls.
Macadamias Australia’s Kiri Braid said family and friends would be in for a treat as they tasted the gourmet sausage rolls.
“They can expect freshly made Bauple Rolls, (the) original name of the macadamia nut, which are house made at Macadamias Australia’s Orchard Table Café,” she said.
“(These) are a lamb and macadamia nut inspired sausage roll served with our own chutney.
“We will offer free nut tastings and sell nuts for purchase.”
Kiri said since opening the Orchard Table Café doors they had received a lot of community support and this was a chance to give those who hadn’t visited yet a sample of the Australia cuisine.
“We are excited to attend for the first time,” she said.
“We want to let locals and tourists know that our visitor experience is open seven days, we always offer free nut tastings, our Orchard Table café creates macadamia inspired cakes, gelatos meals and is a beautiful place to enjoy for all ages.”
Helping to organise the Great Australia Bites Australia Day celebration Event Networx’s Ainsley Gatley said they encouraged family and friends to pick up the picnic blanket and take up a seat to enjoy the local produce from the food vendors.
“This event is about bringing together the community to celebrate and it is more important than ever to do that. We don’t want isolation to be the norm,” she said.
“I love the local vibe of this event – supporting local musicians, food vendors and local products such as gelato, macadamias, ice cream are just some of the amazing produce that this region has on offer.”
