Innes Park roundabout officially opens to motorists

The Innes Park roundabout has been officially opened to motorists today.

The Innes Park and Back Windermere Road roundabout has officially opened to motorists this afternoon after almost four months of construction.

The roundabout is part of the wider North South Coast Distributor project which included the extension of Hughes Road.

The team at Zane Dick Electrical and Air Conditioning have been working on the final touches to the project over the past few weeks, installing street lighting throughout the area.

“We have installed about nine poles with 15 lights across the roundabout,” Zane said.

“Work started to the lighting in late May and we are very excited that the project is now complete for motorists to utilise.”

Zane said as a resident of the area and through his contracted role, he could see many benefits associated with the new roundabout.

“I actually live at Coral Cove and this area has been in need of an upgrade for a long time so it is great to see,” he said.

“It’s been really good working in with the local council on this major project.”

The Bundaberg Regional Council project began in early March and aims to provide greater connectivity for coastal communities.

Divisional representative Cr Tanya McLoughlin said the four-legged roundabout would also improve safety for road users who travel through the area.

“This particular stretch is the main connection point for Innes Park residents to Bundaberg and Bargara,” she said.

“It has become a busier road over the past few years due to our coastal corridor gaining in popularity with homeowners, which lends itself to the increase we’ve seen in developments along this section.

“By improving infrastructure such as this roundabout we’re allowing for the future growth to the coastal strip while greatly improving safety for all those who travel this way.”

The roundabout opened to road users at 2 pm.

The North South Coast Distributor – Back Windermere Project is a joint initiative of Bundaberg Regional Council and the Queensland Government.
