Bundaberg inshore reefs
With light south-westerly’s forecast this weekend, it should allow plenty of small boats to get out and take advantage of the fantastic fishing our inshore reefs have been providing.
Squire/snapper have really turned it on over the past month.
The key with areas such as Cochrane’s Artificial Reef and 4 mile, is to fish as the sun is coming up or late afternoon.
This is when the quality fish have been caught.
There has also been some winter whiting caught out the front of Burnett Heads.
Baits such as beach worms, squid and prawns all work well.
Using Gulp sandworm soft plastics have also been dynamite on the whiting.
As always, check the weather report before heading out.
Burnett River
There have been plenty of Blue Salmon getting around the town reach and Fairymead bend.
From live baiting to throwing all sizes of soft vibes have all been working well.
An hour each side of low tide has been the go for fishing for salmon.
Some outstanding size bream and flathead have also been caught in the Burnett River this past week.
Good reports have come from Skyringville and up around the sand flats of Splitters Creek as well.
Kolan River and Baffle Creek
The Kolan and Baffle have both been producing some very nice whiting and flathead.
Some of the whiting have been in the 40cm range.
Fishing the incoming tide over shallow yabbie bars have been working a treat.
Using fresh beach worms or yabbies on a size 6 long shank hook has been deadly.
The flathead have been loving 3-4 inch soft plastics, cast over the shallows.
Don’t forget to throw in the crab pots because there was some ripper mud crabs caught last weekend.
Lake Monduran
Lake Monduran has still been producing some solid barra this winter.
Even though the water temperatures are low, the barra can be located easier in the shallow windblown bay
At this time of the year, mid to late afternoon is prime time for the barra to come out and play.
During the cooler months, extremely low pauses with suspending hard body lures like the Jackall Squirrel or Lucky Craft Pointer is the key to success.
