Bundaberg Regional Council recently resolved to invite expressions of interest (EOI) for the sale or lease of the Bargara Administration Building and Cultural Centre.

Innovative ideas are being sought by Council for the future use of its Bargara Administration and Cultural Centres from community organisations through a public Expressions of Interest process launched this week.

The Bargara Administration Centre will become vacant in coming months, leading Council to invite EOIs from groups that could operate the buildings for the benefit of the community.

Bundaberg Regional Council Executive Director Strategic Projects and Economic Development Ben Artup said the official EOI process was launched this week following extensive community consultation.

“The community told us what they’d like to see the buildings used for, and now we are looking for proposals from community groups and organisations to meet these needs. We are looking for real innovation in the way these important buildings will be used in the future,” Mr Artup said.

“Council is not looking for the highest commercial return for each building. Our focus is on how these assets can be used to attract higher and better community uses to Bargara.

“The overall objective for both buildings is to see them used in ways that enhance social and economic outcomes for the region, in a sustainable and responsible fashion.”

Consultation reveals community needs

Council recently undertook four months of community consultation on the buildings, including town hall meetings, a community survey and poll.

Mr Artup said the consultation revealed community needs and service gaps the buildings might be able to address.

“This formal expressions of interest process will test the market to reveal any interest from community groups, and how they could activate the buildings and the surrounding area. We want ideas that make Bargara an even better place to live,” he said.

Community groups and organisations are encouraged to submit their proposals for assessment.

“They can either do this individually or in partnership with others.”

Expressions of interest close on Tuesday, 28 May at 4pm.

To lodge an EOI community groups and organisations should head to lgtenderbox.com.au. Once registered through this link, the documents can be found through TEN/0663 BRC008778 and/ or TEN/0664 BRC008779.

After the closing of the EOI Council will assess proposals and then decide if and how it engages further with any shortlisted EOIs on the future of the buildings.
