Farmyard friends were a popular attraction as Children’s Week was celebrated in Childers on Friday with a Spooky Family Fun Day.
The event, held on the cusp of Halloween, was hosted at the Child and Family Support Centre, supported by representatives from local childcare agencies including the Isis Community Kindergarten.
Young participants in capes and masks delighted in petting lambs and chickens before scurrying off to enjoy the jumping castle.
The more creative youngsters found the cauldrons of sloppy goop more to their liking as they fished for plastic scorpions and spiders.
Childers Neighbourhood Centre community development officer Deb Murphy said the event was held to bring a focus to Children’s Week celebrations and it had been popular with parents and their children.
She said that despite the need to observe COVID-19 restrictions the event had delivered a morning of play and learning for families.
Council’s community services portfolio spokesperson, Cr Tracey McPhee, said she was delighted to see family groups supporting the spooky family fun day.
“It’s great to see the kids really enjoying the activities and attractions on offer,” she said.
“The staff associated with organising the event obviously appreciate that families have been looking for this form of activity as an opportunity for a community social outing.”
The spooky family fun day was organised by Isis Child and Family Support with the assistance of the State Government.
