Bundaberg Indoor Sports Centre hosted the annual Make A Wish Charity Day on Sunday to help raise money for local families.
Make A Wish president Angela Andrews said the volunteer organisation was raising money for Bundaberg children with life-threatening illnesses.
There are currently five families that the Make A Wish committee is hoping to grant wishes for.
Angela and Make A Wish volunteer Rita MacDonald were busy selling raffle tickets to the generous sports teams as they headed in to take on their rivals in the fun and energetic Make A Wish Charity Day competition.
Angela said the annual event raised much-needed funds to make wishes come true for local children.
After a few bumps this year because of COVID-19 it was great to be back to a little bit of normality and engaging with the Bundaberg Region community.
Bundaberg Indoor Sports Centre owner Colin Kinnest said it’s the fourth time he has supported the Make A Wish Charity Day while Make A Wish Bundaberg has run the annual event for about 20 years.
“It’s normally held on the last Sunday of October, and teams of friends and family come down to enjoy a game of either indoor cricket, indoor netball, dodgeball or darts,” he said.
“We start the day at 8.30am and go through until 5pm, and there’s always a good turnout of people to help raise money for Make A Wish.”
Colin said in the four years since he has helped organise the event, they were able to raise about $2000 annually, and all of that money went to support local families, so it was definitely a worthwhile cause.
