Extensions to St Luke’s Anglican School could start as soon as next year after a further five stages of its master plan were approved by Bundaberg Regional Council.
The development is set to change the face of the school, incorporating a new performing arts and sports centre, upgrades to the primary precinct and a new “student wellness hub” featuring a cafe and staff administration space.
Council’s Group Manager Development Michael Ellery said the St Luke’s master plan extensions would increase the school’s gross floor area by 5745 sq m with additional open air facilities increasing by 4685 sq m.
“The works, proposed over five stages, are set to guide the school’s future progression, provide more productive spaces for students and enhance the existing facilities,” Mr Ellery said.
“A notable feature of this application is the new performing arts and sports centre which in stage one will include retractable seating and a main stage.
“In later stages additions will be added to this centre including an indoor and outdoor sports court, gym, a classroom and a function area.
“Alterations and additions will be made to the primary school facilities to support modern learning experiences for students in prep to year three.
“The fifth and final stage would see the construction of a new wellness hub which would incorporate a café, external seating and wellness and staff facilities.”
When announcing the lodgement of the St Luke’s master plan application Principal Craig Merritt said the ‘Our Future: Masterplan’ was the result of extensive deliberations and on-going consultation.
“The beautiful campus has served St Luke’s students, staff and families exceptionally well,” Mr Merritt said.
“However, education has changed considerably since the foundation of the school and the school is continuing to evolve into the future.”
At that time the school said schematic design work had been completed on the Performing Arts and Sports Centre, and construction was likely to commence in early 2021, for occupancy by students in 2022.
The St Luke’s master plan, set to be constructed over five stages, includes:
- A new Performing Arts and Sports Centre (over two stages) incorporating a new, enclosed, purpose-built centre for performances, sports, marquee events and assemblies, with a high-performance gym, cardio room, amenities and learning areas.
- An upgrade to the existing upper primary (Lohse Centre) to ensure learning environments provide 21st Century learning.
- A new Lower Primary Precinct building to provide new learning areas for Preparatory, Years 1-3 and Learning Enrichment, while also becoming the new home for Primary Administration.
- The final stage of the St Luke’s master plan would consist of a student wellness hub, cafe and staff administration space, forming a ‘town centre’ for all members of our school community to gather, surrounded by the picturesque forest and nature play spaces.
