Kadilly Coffee branches out with fresh Tathra brew

Rod Walmsley has been nurturing his Kadilly Coffee plantation for six years.

Bundaberg coffee producer Kadilly Coffee is branching out with a freshly brewed Tathra coffee now available at Grand Hotel Bundaberg.

Kadilly Coffee producer Rod Walmsley started growing coffee trees as a hobby at his parent’s Sharon property, Tathra, and named the newest blend at Grand Hotel Bundaberg in honour of the farm.

Rod said since launching Kadilly Coffee in 2018, as the Bundaberg Region’s first commercial coffee beans, he’s received overwhelming support.

Rod’s coffee orchard of 250 trees produces Arabica coffee, which is supplemented with beans from around the world to create a variety of rich flavours and coffee blends.

Kadilly Coffee’s Tathra is a medium-to-dark roast with blend notes of cocoa, nuts and dark chocolate.

“My newest blend Tathra is a sweet blend and is ideally used for milk-based coffees such as cappuccinos and lattes,” he said.

“It has a clean, sweet taste which is also perfect for long blacks.”

Big dreams for Kadilly Coffee owner

For the past six years Rod has nurtured his coffee plantation and he said it’s his long-term goal to become a full-time coffee producer, and as business continued to grow, he knows he’s heading in the right direction.

“It’s my long-term dream to go full-time growing, harvesting and making coffee,” he said.

“I have found locals are really supportive, so I’ve increased the places people can now buy Kadilly Coffee in both retail and served.

“It’s served at HSG at the Gardens and now at the Grand Hotel.

“Tathra is exclusively available at Grand Hotel Bundaberg.”

Kadilly Coffee is stocked at Artisan4670, One Little Farm, Cha Cha Chocolate, HSG, Avoca IGA and Woodgate Friendly Grocer, Coral Cove Convenience Store and Red Cherry Kitchen at Biloela.

Earlier this year, Kadilly Coffee won a bronze medal for its Cranky Pants blend at the Golden Bean Australia Coffee Roasters Competition.

Rod said he was now busy preparing his blends again for the competition that will be judged in November. He has fingers crossed in anticipation for the world’s largest coffee-roasting contest.
