Be part of historic AFL Premiership Cup tour

AFL Premiership Cup tour
Mayor Jack Dempsey has caught footy fever ahead of the AFL Premiership Cup’s arrival at Buss Park.

Bundaberg Region footy fans can be part of history on Thursday when the 2020 AFL Premiership Cup is displayed in Buss Park.

The cup is touring regional Queensland ahead of the grand final to be played in Brisbane on October 24.

On Thursday, October 15 from 9-10am the “holy grail” will be in Bundaberg and fans can take an opportunity to snap a photo with the cup.

Mayor Jack Dempsey was successful in lobbying to have Bundaberg added to the trophy’s regional tour.

He’s encouraging residents to don their team’s colours and see part of sporting history.

“Between 9 and 10am Buss Park will be the centre for the holy grail for AFL right across Australia,” Mayor Dempsey said.

“Bring your footy team’s favourite colours, particularly the mighty Lions and roar out the support of the Bundaberg Region for the AFL Cup.

“Show your support for the current and future champions of AFL across the Bundaberg Region.

“So come on Bundaberg, hear the roar!”

Mayor Dempsey wrote to AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan earlier this month after a proposed itinerary showed that Bundaberg would be bypassed on the cup’s Queensland tour.

“Bundaberg Region people love sports and the opportunity to see the Holy Grail of AFL is something that many people will appreciate,” he said.

“I’m grateful to Mr McLachlan for agreeing to our request.”

For those heading to the AFL Premiership Cup tour event, Buss Park is located on the corner of Bourbong and Maryborough Streets in the Bundaberg CBD.

A COVID-safe plan will be in place.
