Placing a community noticeboard adjacent to the RV friendly parking area in Crescent Street is a priority project for the Childers Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber president Teena Mammino said the popularity of the location for RV owners and the lack of traditional advertising methods like a local newspaper, prompted the Chamber to approach Council to assist with a large community noticeboard.
“Local businesses, tourism operators and the general community will be able to utilise the board to promote their businesses, attractions and events,” she said.
“I counted 46 RV’s parked in the area recently and there is no doubt that establishing Childers as an RV Friendly Town was an excellent initiative by Council.”
The Chamber president said she had applied for $5,000 in funding for the noticeboard through a Council Community Grants program and although she had not yet received any official notification she remained confident of a positive outcome.
Mayor breakfast guest speaker
The Childers Chamber of Commerce will hold a breakfast meeting on Thursday August 6, the first meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the Chamber’s role in March.
“I guess I remain president by default,” laughed Teena. “Our AGM was to be held in April, but the forthcoming meeting will be the first opportunity to canvass the executive positions for the Chamber.
“There does not appear to be a lot of interest in changing the current executive and I am happy to stay on as president with the support of members.
“Due to the pandemic we will be offering free membership to the Chamber through to the end of the year for all businesses and individuals interested in fostering the ideals of the Chamber,” Teena said.
“The Chamber has been proactive with initiatives such as the Christmas bow blitz and fairy-lighting main street trees as well as the compilation of the Heritage Streetscape project.
“We are committed to pursuing outcomes for the Heritage Streetscape initiative and hopefully we can overcome the interruption caused by the virus and set about implementing recommendations contained in the report.”
The Childers Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held Thursday, August 6 at the Isis Club commencing with breakfast at 6.30 with the AGM to follow at 7am. Mayor Jack Dempsey will be guest speaker.
