A meeting betweenthe Bundaberg Regional Council and TAFE Queensland has strengthened ties and renewed interest in future partnership programs.
Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor, Jack Dempsey met with TAFE Queensland Faculty Director of Business, Hospitality and Language (East Coast region) Jo Charters and Business Development Officer Steve Howard on 24 July, to discuss the latest on TAFE Queensland courses, future jobs proofing, COVID-19, and Council’s one million trees program.
Not surprisingly, jobs creation was one of the most important issues, and Mayor Dempsey said it was encouraging to see that TAFE Queensland are providing innovative ways to deliver their training and skills courses throughout COVID.
“It was great to welcome Jo and Steve to the Council offices, and to hear about the vast variety of courses they offer right here in Bundaberg,” Mayor Dempsey said.
“Whatever you’re interested in; from beauty to plumbing, information technology to hospitality, or anything in between, these courses are right here in our backyard and can set you on the path to success.”
TAFE Queensland’s Bundaberg campus offers courses across a range of programs including community services, hair and beauty, nursing, hospitality and tourism, retail, and trades.
Mayor Dempsey encouraged school leavers and those re-entering the jobs market to seek further qualifications and said that TAFE was an option worth serious consideration.
“TAFE courses are hugely important because they allow potential students to tap into those skill sets to get themselves job ready for opportunities that could be created in 2020-2021 and into the future,” Mayor Dempsey said.
“From pre-apprenticeship trades and agriculture, to hair and beauty, electrotechnology, IT and early childhood education and care, these courses can provide the base from which people can embark upon any number of career choices.”
“It is so important to our ongoing prosperity that TAFE courses continue to be an attractive option to job seekers — new or existing.”
