CQUniversity’s Vice-Chancellor has announced that starting on Monday, 23 March 2020, the University will commence transition of on-campus teaching activities to online delivery for the remainder of Term 1, in the wake of the current COVID-19 crisis.
Professor Klomp explained that CQUniversity made the decision in the interest of student health and safety, staff and community well-being, and that it is in a position to offer high-quality course offerings online to all students.
“I have made the decision that from Monday, 23 March, we will commence transitioning all face-to-face teaching to online, until the end of Term 1 2020,” he said.
Providing quality online service
“CQUniversity is an industry leader in online education, and we are well placed to provide a quality online service to all our students.
“In fact, we have been delivering distance education offerings for almost five decades.”
He also explained that a major factor in making this decision now would minimise disruption to the student learning experience, in anticipation of increased social distancing requirements or tougher restrictions on mass gatherings.
“This call was made to ensure any possible disruption for our students was minimised.
“The current situation is impacting day-to-day life, so it was important to act now to provide some flexibility and certainty for students to continue with their studies.
“We expect this to be a relatively seamless transition for students and our teaching staff will work with them to provide guidance.”
All campuses to remain open
Despite classes being transitioned from on-campus to online, all CQUniversity campuses will remain open as normal, with Professor Klomp saying that facilities and services would still be available for student use.
“Our campuses and contact centre will be open and operate as normal with the full range of student and academic support services still on offer.
“Likewise, students will still be able to visit our libraries and use computer labs and other campus facilities.
“CQUniversity would like to thank all staff, students and members of our community for their ongoing patience and support as we manage our response to this issue.”
