In the lead-up to the Bundaberg Regional Eisteddfod 2020, organisers are seeking a helping hand to make sure the 16-day program runs without a hitch.
The annual vocal, instrumental and drama performances will see some of the Bundaberg Region’s talented students take to the stage at the end of April through to the end of July for the local school competition.
Bundaberg Eisteddfod committee member Lynne Metz said financial support had become more difficult in recent years and they were now calling for more sponsors and volunteers to assist.
Ms Metz said anyone was able to volunteer and even a small amount of time could make a big difference.
“We have all sorts of volunteers. Some who are experts and confident, some who are helpful, and kind hearted,” she said.
Ms Metz stated volunteering at the Bundaberg Regional Eisteddfod would help make a difference to not only some of the young people’s lives, but it would also give the volunteers an opportunity to learn a new skill.
She said there was a variety of volunteer tasks and there was no need to worry about experience as support and help was provided by skilled volunteers or committee members.
Contemporary section expected to be bigger
Lynne was eager to for the public to know that it would be the third year the Bundaberg Regional Eisteddfod had run a music performers contemporary section, and after last year’s growth in numbers, she believed it would be a success again this year.
“The committee aims is to keep our young adults engaged in performance,” she said.
The contemporary section is ideal in exposing our youth creative talent.
“Some perform their own compositions, while others perform a polished personal choice by singing or playing a variety of instruments.”
Ms Metz said in 2018, when the contemporary performers section was introduced, there were 14 entries and the numbers grew by a third last year.
This year the Bundaberg Regional Eisteddfod committee will introduce a new way of recognising financial supporter with their printed programs now incorporating financial supporter names or logos.
“This is new for us and we are keen to publicly thank all our supporters, Ms Metz said.
“Mind you some financial supporters prefer to remain anonymous.”
