Pacific Inclusion Day ‘Samoa Tula’i’ is coming back to Burnett Heads on Saturday, 8 February and is expected to be bigger than ever.
The event will be held from 5pm at the Lighthouse Hotel.
Lighthouse Hotel general manager Gavin Hales said it’s always a highlight of the calendar.
“This has been a hugely successful event that we have hosted each year,” Gavin said.
“It keeps getting bigger and bigger with all profits raised going to a charity from one of our neighbouring Pacific Islands.
“This year Samoa receives some much-needed assistance for Mapuifalele, home for the elderly.
Organiser of Pacific Inclusion, Tania Deviney, said the community and cultural event attracts people from far and wide.
‘Everyone loves the authentic Islander food such as Hungi/Umu and pig on the spit,” Tania said.
“There’s also market stalls, traditional Indigenous and Pacific performances from our local community groups.
“These include Taribelang Cultural Aboriginal Corporation, Ngati Maranga, Wide Bay Kiribti Community Group, Bundaberg String Band and Bundaberg Latin Fusion.
“This year we have the biggest line up of traditional performances in our four year history.”
People are encouraged to dress in tropical or traditional island costume, with prizes for best dressed.
There will also be free face painting, monster raffles and a courtesy bus.
“Entry is free and we encourage everyone along to experience the ways of the islands and support our local Indigenous and Pacific community,” Tania said.
People are encouraged to pre-book the courtesy bus from Bargara or Bundaberg.
