A field day focused on weed and pest management will be open to the whole community when it’s held at Bucca later this month.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Small Farms Field Day will be held at Bucca Sports Ground on Saturday, 15 February, with plenty of information to be made available to the public.
Environment spokesperson Cr Wayne Honor said the event would focus on a range of ways to prevent pests on the land as well as offering information on the correct removal procedures.
“This is an initiative of Council’s land protection team and aims to provide information to landholders on pest plant and animal control,” he said.
“This will be done by providing landowners with several options to implement an integrated approach to management of pest plants such as improving pasture and grazing management practices, chemical control, weed seed hygiene of vehicles and machinery and weed identification by Melinda Laidlaw from the Queensland Herbarium.
“The event lines up with what we are trying to achieve through the Bundaberg Region Biosecurity Plan, which provides a guide for invasive species management in the region.”
Cr Honor said demonstrations would also be featured on the day.
“There will be pest animal trapping techniques with demonstrations by an experienced trapper as well as pest animal proof fencing examples,” he said.
“The Burnett Mary Regional Group will have a display providing information on various programs that are being provided to support land managers and event-goers can also bring along their plants for identification.”
The field day is one of many Council has hosted over the years, providing an opportunity for landholders to get up-to-date on pest management information.
The 2020 Small Farms Field Day will be held on Saturday, 15 February at Bucca Sports Grounds, 28 Longs Road, from 9am to 3.30pm.
