A pop-up store selling pre-loved uniforms, basic stationery supplies and offering free back-to-school haircuts will open its doors to the community from Monday.
The School Savvy Pop-Up Shop is coming to Bundaberg for the first time this year, with plenty of supplies ready to help get families ready for the start of 2020 schooling.
School Savvy CQ assistant coordinator Danielle Mitchell said inquiries had already been flooding the School Savvy Facebook page and website.
“We’ve received queries about the day itself and how it will work, as well as people wishing to donate and help in any way they can,” she said.
“It’s fantastic to see the interest ramping up for this initiative which helps so many families.
“The pop-up shop will have a range of low-cost stationery and pre-loved uniforms to give school aged children the best possible start to the 2020 school year.”
What is School Savvy?
Danielle said the School Savvy initiative aimed to help families who were experiencing tough financial times.
Offering uniforms, exercise books, scrapbooks, pens, pencils and so much more, she said School Savvy helped to ensure all children within the community had the right resources needed to succeed at school, regardless of their financial circumstances.
“School Savvy strives for inclusiveness by not applying an eligibility criteria,” Danielle said.
“Our shop operates on an honesty policy where we ask that people respect the School Savvy program as one that helps those struggling financially.
“It takes a community to raise a child, and School Savvy is proud to play a part in improving children’s education.”
School Savvy Bundaberg pop-up shop
The Bundaberg School Savvy shop will open from Monday, January 13-17 at the Civic Centre on Bourbong Street from 9am to 4pm.
Coming off the back of 2019’s successful event, which was held in the Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast regions, Danielle said she expected this year’s pop-up shops to exceed last year’s numbers.
“With the expansion of School Savvy now in Bundaberg this year, the project itself has increased exponentially,” she said.
“Last year’s pop-up shops saw more than 1400 attendees across the region, more than 400 families supported and more than 700 individual children helped.
“We are very excited to be able to help so many children and families within our community.”
