Visitors to Mary Kinross Park could have been mistaken seeing double, triple and even nine times the same pooch at the weekend.
A large group of cocker spaniels and their families converged on the dog off-leash area for Bundaberg’s first canine social play date on Saturday.
Wendy Saunders, owner of three and four-year-old Ruby and Gracie, said the cocker spaniel owners had initially met through Facebook before deciding to bring their beloved pets together.
“We all met through the Facebook page Cocker Spaniels Australia and decided what a great idea it would be to meet in person,” she said.
“Families came from all over the region, with the furthest travelling from Winfield.”
Mrs Saunders said the nine pups got along famously.
“Shadow, our only male cocker, was outnumbered by Abby, Gracie, Ruby, Holly, Gabby, Elsa, Lily and Kira,” she said.
“They were all really good with each other and had a blast.
“They are very sociable little things.”
The group plan to catch up again and hope to get the word out to other cocker spaniel owners for future outings.
“It was a great success and we will definitely do it again,” Mrs Saunders said.
“These events happen regularly in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast but this is the first we have held one in Bundaberg and we hope to have many more.”
For cocker spaniel owners wishing to participate in the next play date, keep an eye out for a post on the Cocker Spaniels Australia Facebook page.
