Spinal Life Bundaberg celebrated Disability Action Week on Tuesday with a tour of the Bundaberg Rum Distillery.
Local facilitator Pat Allison said 17 members enjoyed the tour and morning tea with Bundaberg Rum Distillery guides Tammie and Craig both providing excellent support.
“We absolutely had a wonderful time – they treated us like royalty!” Pat said.
“The whole facility was fully accessible for us and I am still awed about how they treated us.
“Two ladies came over from Gayndah and we all had a really good day, the only thing we didn’t do was make our own rum.
“It was excellent service and above our expectations.”
Pat said most of the members used wheelchairs and the tour was fully accessible for all people with special needs.
Disability Action Week supported by Spinal Life Bundaberg
Pat said as it was Disability Action Week it was important to show support for people with a disability.
“Queenslanders with all abilities can help raise awareness about disability,” Pat said.

One in every five people have a disability, so it is likely everybody knows someone with a disability.
“Disability touches all Queenslanders in some way and this week is about inclusivity in the wider community.”
Spinal Life Bundaberg meet monthly and go to lunch about every three months, and Pat said they were often looking for places that were fully-accessible for people in wheelchairs.
She said the group was open to anyone with a disability and not just those who had a spinal injury.
“All people with disabilities are welcome to join us for our catch-ups and morning teas,” Pat said.
