There is a new addition to the Bundaberg CBD, a bookshop with a unique twist, blending a love of literature with flowers, plants and curated giftware.
The Floral Chapter owner Millie Barr has the details about her new venture:
What inspired you to choose the Bundaberg Region as the location for your new business, and how do you see it fitting into the local landscape?
Bundaberg has been home since I was young, and I’ve worked here from the age of 11—starting my mornings at the local newsagency before school.
I’ve always admired our local businesses and have a deep passion for creating unique gifts that bring joy.
I’ve heard so many wonderful stories about the Rounds Arcade being a vibrant hub “back in the day” and I hope to contribute to bringing that energy back.
The arcade is filling up with amazing businesses, and the sense of community here has been so welcoming.
I’m excited to be part of this growing space.
Can you provide an overview of the unique products your business will offer?
The Floral Chapter is a bookshop with a unique twist—we also sell flowers, plants and carefully curated giftware.
Our niche genres are Romance and Fantasy, fitting perfectly with the “love” vibes of our store.
We offer handcrafted book bouquets and flower bottle toppers, putting love and care into every arrangement.
Our goal is to provide thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gifts that bring a little magic into people’s lives.
What positive experiences have shaped your journey in establishing this business, and what are you most looking forward to once you open your doors?
For years, I worked in the finance industry, but I always felt a little out of place—like I wasn’t where I was meant to be.
While it taught me valuable skills for running a business, my true passion has always been creating.
Friends and family would often come to me for gift ideas, and last year, I started making book bouquets and flower bottle toppers just before Christmas.
To my surprise, they took off! That’s when I knew it was time to take a leap of faith and chase my dreams.
Most importantly, I want to be the best possible role model for my young child—showing him that it’s possible to follow your passion and build something meaningful.
Are there any sustainability initiatives you are implementing that will set your business apart?
Sustainability is important to us.
We focus on reusing and repurposing materials as much as possible, whether it’s shop fittings, packaging, or florals.
Small steps can make a big difference, and we’re committed to reducing waste wherever we can.
How can local residents and businesses support your new venture?
Supporting local businesses makes a world of difference!
Pop down to the Arcade for a visit, say hi, and consider shopping locally when you’re looking for a new book or a special gift.
If I don’t have a book in stock, I can order it in for you.
I also love helping people find the perfect gift—so think of me when you’re looking for something unique!
What message do you hope to convey to the local community as you embark on this exciting new chapter?
Local businesses pour so much thought, love, and care into every interaction.
When you support small businesses, you’re not just making a purchase—you’re helping a dream grow and keeping the community vibrant.
Where are you located, and how can the community contact you?
You’ll find us on the Ground Floor of The Rounds Arcade—come in and say G’day!
