Bundaberg resident Ursula Bauer has recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her large family.
Here’s what she had to say about the milestone event:
How does it feel to be 100?
Just like any other day!
What was your celebration yesterday?
I had a big birthday bash.
Family came from lots of different places. It made me feel very proud of them.
How many kids do you have?
I have six children a set of twins in that, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren.
Would you say there’s a secret to living to 100?
No secret, just take one day at a time.
That’s all you can do.
Take it all in your stride the good and the bad.
When did you move to Bundaberg?
I was born in Germany and moved to Bundaberg when I was about 11 or 12, we originally settled in Mundubbera.
What would you say is your favourite thing about Bundaberg?
Just the atmosphere, the people and the climate the most, it’s pretty good here when you hear about Victoria.
How many siblings do you have?
I have two brothers and two sisters, only one sister is still alive.
Daughter-in-law Glenda Bauer has developed a special friendship with Ursula over the years, caring for her over the past 14 years.
What is your relationship with Ursula like?
She’s been living with me for 14 years here and it’s been a pleasure to have her.
I treat her like my mother.
She has led a very healthy life, she’s never broken a bone.
We also have lovely neighbours here, they always say if we need anything just sing out.
