A new sewer pump station and rising main in Burnett Heads is providing the critical infrastructure needed to address shortages of land for housing.

Set to service the Ocean Breeze development, the recently constructed Milton Street sewer pump station will also enable additional development to the south of Burnett Heads to be sewered.

Water, Waste and Renewable Economy portfolio spokesperson Cr Gary Kirk said the completion of this project had brought positive outcomes for the community.

He said the sewer main was a key part of strategic service delivery which supported higher density development and when planning this project, current and future developments were taken into consideration.

“With changes to the original design to extend the depth of the well and reposition it, Council was able to accommodate connection to service the RV Lifestyle Village as well,” Cr Kirk said.

“The size and positioning of the pump station will ensure service delivery in the area as Burnett Heads continues to develop and the population grows.”

Cr Kirk said the new pump station would alleviate the use of onsite sewage treatment systems, which often presented several restrictions for developers and property owners.

“Larger properties are required for onsite systems which causes an issue with the number of allotments that can be developed,” he said.

“This new pump station allows future development to be sewered and treated at a centralised sewage system.

“This will allow for smaller allotments to be developed which is beneficial in helping to address the housing crisis.

“Homeowners will also benefit as they won’t be required to manage the issues associated with onsite treatment systems.”
