Experience the Australian landscape through the creative lens of local visual artist Larissa Dabrowski, with her latest exhibition ‘details in the dirt’ on show at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.
Larissa’s series explores the busyness, intricacy and interconnectedness of our landscape, highlighting its adaptability and resilience through paintings and accompanying sculptures.
The series title ‘the details in the dirt’ was inspired by the idiom ‘the devil is in the details’ from the earlier phrase ‘God is in the detail’.
Larissa said the title was chosen for both the literal and lateral definitions.
“Actually viewing the intricacies that are present in the soil as well as, whatever one does, one should do properly – details are important,” Larissa said.
“I believe ‘all that’s out there’ is also ‘in us’ – when I paint or sculpt, I feel that I’m giving form to the invisible link between the two.”
With her creative practice spanning well over twenty years and encompassing a range of media, Larissa is proud of discovering her unique visual language that bravely makes her work her own.
The works combine fine detailed marks, spherical elements, bold textures and an earthy palette for a grounded and visually rich experience.
The meanings and inspiration behind the work is further communicated through the title and didactics, with powerful Haiku and prose accompanying each piece to enhance the background stories.
The details in the dirt exhibition can be viewed within the foyer at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre between 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday and one hour prior to performances.
Complimentary postcards are available from the exhibition space as a memento for visitors.
