Tuesday 6.08.2024:

Ladies Day: Social competition bowls as well a fist full of competition games out on our greens today.

Firstly two games in the Ladies Open Consistency:

Robyn Bishop had a win over Gail Lenz with Jacquie Rogerson marking the card and wielding the measuring stick!

Next we had Fiona Dowling having a win over Meredith Taylor with Gloria Newby taking charge of the card.

A game in the B grade Ladies Pairs was a great tussle with Jenny Knight and Raeleen Cahill having a hard fought win over Barb Clarke and Judy Stanley.

Especially good to see more experienced bowlers Raels and Judy pairing up with a couple of new bowlers, Jenny and Barb and introducing them to the competition arena.

Special thanks to Rob Anderson who gave up his afternoon to be our Umpire for the day.

Mens Day: What a day our men had today, out on the green, just settled into a game of bowls the heavens opened and down came the rain, turning our greens into wading pools!

The men had played enough ends that the draws were done and winners awarded!

As well as our usual Social paddle pop draw triples we had a game in The Mens Open Triples between Team Cornish and Team Winzar. Team Cornish: Stephen Cole Ian  Goodhew Brian Cornish (skip) had a win over Team Winzar: Phil Mullins John Robinson Bob Winzar (skip) We also had a game in the Mens B grade singles which resulted in a win to Col Ensbey over Phil Nelson with Ken Geaney as marker.

Saturday 3rd August: No play due to Pennant.

COMPETITION

Members are asked to check the Competition draws and start arranging games by mutual agreement where possible. Competitions can now be played on a Sunday on QRI Bowls days. The next two QRI Sundays are Sunday 18th August 9.00am & Sunday 15th September 9.00am (Green will be cut & rolled). If arranging a game, please let the GD know.

Competition Call – Nil this week

The official Competition Call is always on the Club Noticeboard, so please check the board whenever you are at the Club.

Any issues with the above Competition Call, please see the Games Director – Keith Whalley. Members, please try to arrange any other Competition games by mutual agreement.

Just a reminder that when you are playing in Club Competitions, you must be in full Club uniform which includes shorts/trousers.

PENNANT

Results: Division 1 lost to The Waves 45-67 winning 1 rink. Division 3 had a great win against Bargara 43-34 winning on both rinks. Division 4 had a tough day at the office losing 15-55 against Bargara at Bargara. Division 6 lost to The Waves 32-49 at The Waves. Looking at the results perhaps we don’t like playing on carpet??  Teams for next week, as well as the progressive points table will be posted on the Club Noticeboard on Tuesday.

Team Managers are reminded that selected teams CANNOT be changed without the approval of the Club selectors.

SOCIAL BOWLS EVENTS

Visitors are most welcome on all playing days. Entry sheets are at the club or phone the Club on 41514217 during opening hours. If you cannot get through to the club number regarding bowls, then please phone 0403531304.

Tuesday 13th August: 50/50 Day where 50 percent of the Green Fees will be returned as prizemoney. This will be a minimum of $200. Open 3 Bowl Pairs (27 ends) – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12pm, green fees paid by 12.30pm for a 1 pm start.

Wednesday 14th August: ‘Scroungers’ Singles – due to the cold weather and a lack of numbers, Scroungers will be postponed until the weather warms up. 

Thursday 15th August: Night Bowls – bowls start at 6.30pm, names in by 6pm. Bowl under lights and enjoy a fun filled night with a chance at the ‘Pick the Joker’ Jackpot which will be $498+ this week. Visitors and those that want to try bowls for the first time will be made to feel very welcome.

Friday 16th August: Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12pm, green fees paid by 12.30pm for a 1 pm start.

Saturday 17th August: Pennant Round 4. Social bowls will be Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12pm, green fees paid by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

CLUB NEWS 

Club opening hours: Monday (Club closed), Tuesday 10am – 5.30pm, Wednesday 11.00am – 9.30pm, Thursday 2.00pm – 9.30pm, Friday 10.00am – 9.30pm, Saturday 10.00am – 6pm (10pm for Functions) Sunday Bowls Days 9am – 2.00pm.

The Goose Club raffle will be drawn on Friday night 16th August at 7pm – Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased during the week from the Bar staff or on Friday night. There are 15 great prizes to be won – you need to be in it to win it! Proceeds from the raffle help to support your Club.

The Member’s Draw will also be held on Friday night 16th August and stands at $110, so come along, have a meal and a few drinks with the chance to win some great cash and prizes.

There will be live entertainment on Friday 16th August presented by ‘The Other Bloke’ and the following Friday 23rd August entertainment will be provided by Old Habits. Members, Guests, and Visitors are always welcome.

A Courtesy Bus is now available on a Friday Night. The first pick up will be any time after 5pm and the final return trip will be 9pm. To make a booking call 0413335767 after 4pm and speak to the driver directly. (Bundaberg Suburban areas only). A small donation to help cover fuel costs would be appreciated.
