Community members will soon have access to more health services as Bundaberg Easy Access Community Health (BEACH) initiative is set to open.
BEACH will be a free new walk-in clinic supported by the VacSeen Project offering flu vaccinations, health discussions and non-urgent care.
The program will be run by a local general practitioner and supported by University of Queensland medical students, with the aim of ensuring easy community access to health information.
The BEACH clinic will be based at the Buss Park entrance of the Anglican Support Ministry at the Anglican Church and open every second Thursday from 25 July from noon to 1 pm during soup kitchen service.
By removing barriers to access health support, the BEACH clinic is designed to empower the community while promoting overall wellbeing and preventative care.
BEACH Clinic Chair Noah Steel said the idea to reintroduce the VacSeen Project came about after speaking to several local doctors on his recent GP placement.
“The main drive was to bring a free and accessible community-based health service to the people of Bundaberg who need it most,” Noah said.
“Working with Dr Exelby, we reached out to the VacSeen Project and the Christ Church Soup Kitchen to bring this service to fruition.”
BEACH Clinic Vice Chair Sai Pabbati said she was excited to be part of the initiative.
“As one of the first cohorts of the new Regional Medical Program, we are grateful to be studying in the region and wanted to give back to the community that has welcomed us with open arms,” Sai said.
BEACH Clinic Secretary Chelsea Powis said the clinic had assisted community members with general education on administered vaccines as well as conditions like asthma.
“We have really enjoyed running the clinic in recent months and it has been really rewarding getting to know the locals and addressing certain medical needs,” Chelsea said.
“We look forward to expanding the service and continuing to build these relationships.”
