Bundaberg is set to come alive with the spirit of NAIDOC Week as the IWC hosts the NAIDOC 2024 Block Party at Boreham Park on 3 July.
The free community event will celebrate the rich culture and achievements of First Nation peoples and promises an immersive cultural experience filled with music, demonstrations, free food, children’s activities and more.
Everyone from all walks of life are invited to join in the festivities with a variety of cultural activities, including traditional clap stick painting, storytelling sessions and interactive demonstrations highlighting the traditions and practices of First Nations people.
Local musician Lachlan Grant, will provide a lively soundtrack, ensuring an atmosphere of celebration and unity.
Children will have a special treat with clap stick painting organised by Bears and Books, a beloved local childcare centre known for engaging and educational programs.
Southern Cross Family Daycare will also be there, ensuring the little ones can look forward to a fun-filled day of games, crafts and stories that highlight the importance of First Nations culture and history.
In addition to the Block Party, NAIDOC Week in Bundaberg will honour our First Nation Elders with a special luncheon at HSG at the Gardens on 11 July.
This event will feature a fire-cooked meal inspired by native ingredients, prepared by renowned local chef, Dion Taylor.
The luncheon will provide an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the wisdom, resilience and contributions of Elders, with live entertainment adding to the festive ambience.
The IWC’s Home Care Manager Ashley Pollitt said they were excited to host both events to celebrate the deep cultural connection of First Nations people.
“These events are designed to foster community spirit, respect, and understanding, bringing people together to honour the traditions and stories that have shaped our nation,” Ashley said.
The NAIDOC 2024 Block Party and Elders Luncheon are free to attend, but RSVP is required for the luncheon to ensure all Elders are accommodated.
