A new partnership between East Coast Apprenticeships, Superior Pak and Kepnock State High School is aiming to provide high-quality learning opportunities that benefit students, the wider community, and local industries.
East Coast Apprenticeships Engagement Manager Chenee Plows said the collaboration underscored the training organisation’s commitment to strengthening connections with local businesses to better understand their needs and prepare students for future workforce demands.
“The partnership focuses on several key objectives,” she said.
“This includes developing work readiness skills such as accountability, teamwork and effective communication.
“A mentorship program with Superior Pak will enhance the leadership capabilities of students while guiding them in developing skills that align with Superior Pak’s values and philosophy.
“Students will gain hands-on experience in heavy industry environments that prepares them for potential apprenticeships or traineeships and will help cultivate a reliable workforce.”
Ms Plows said students will also benefit from project-based learning by engaging in a project designed in collaboration with Superior Pak.
This project will be integrated into the curriculum as a masterclass-style experience, providing students with practical, real-world skills essential for their future careers and will involve various components.
“They will learn how to read and interpret different types of plans, including engineering and welding plans and learn basic welding and fabrication techniques,” Chenee said.
“They will also create their own plans through hand sketches and digital programs and learn how to communicate effectively with qualified tradespeople or engineers through drawings to adapt to build requirements.
“We’re proud to partner in this innovative program and believe that by working closely with local industries, we can ensure students are well-prepared for the next stage of their lives which also enables them to contribute positively to our community’s growth.”
