The Bundaberg Neighbourhood Centre (BNC) is hosting their first ever volunteer engagement meeting where community organisations are invited to collaborate in developing an effective local volunteer recruitment strategy.
The meeting, aimed at attracting volunteers and meeting the needs of community organisations, will take place at the BNC on Wednesday 7 February from 9 am to 11 am with RSVPs due by 1 February.
BNC Community Liaison Officer Lynne Forgan said they wanted to reiterate that volunteers are the backbone of the community.
“Volunteering is about giving of your time and energy for the betterment of someone less fortunate while being able to share your ideas, meet new friends and have the feeling that you have made a difference to someone’s life,” Lynne said.
“There has been a decline in volunteers and we need to reinvigorate the community about lending a hand.”
Lynne said she encouraged all community organisations to attend and offer input on how to encourage local volunteer participation, particularly for every day roles and needs.
“Some organisations may have ideas that are working and they could share those ideas with the rest of the group,” she said.
“We hope to be able to plan a way to encourage more of the community to be involved in volunteering and form a strategy that we can all work with to build a stronger network of support for volunteers and organisations.”
