The 2023 Be Active Be Alive program saw a range of new classes introduced as Bundaberg Regional Council’s popular free fitness offering continued to grow.
It was estimated that over 3500 participants took part in 2023 with 434 park classes and 135 pool classes completed at facilities in Bundaberg, Bargara, Moore Park Beach, Elliott Heads, Childers, Gin Gin and Woodgate.
Community members were able to test their skills at line dancing, pound workouts, qigong and aerial fitness classes or by taking part in the 10,000 Steps challenge.
Pickleball was also offered for the first time and became the standout activity in terms of attendance with numbers consistently increasing over the three terms it was offered.
Other popular classes included yoga, swing, mojo soul and aqua aerobics.
The Be Active Be Alive campaign once again aimed to support the health of the community by encouraging them to engage in local spaces and enjoy fitness fun.
Classes for the 2023 program were offered across the whole region over four terms, giving residents access to a wide variety of fitness opportunities throughout the year.
The program also aimed to support fitness providers in engaging with the community, with some continuing to offer their sessions to the public after the program was completed and others seeing an increase in attendance at their regular classes.
The next round of the popular program will kick off next month and run from Monday 5 February to Sunday 31 March 2024 with the public encouraged to watch the Be Active Bundy Region Facebook page for updates.
