Kinkuna and Goodwood fire situation

At 1.59 pm on Tuesday 31 October Queensland Fire and Emergency Service issued a leave immediately warning for residents in Kinkuna and Goodwood. For all current warnings, updates and mapping go to https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/Current-Incidents.

The Local Disaster Management Group has moved to Stand Up in response to the fire situation at Kinkuna and Goodwood.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) has directed residents to leave the area immediately. For all current warnings, updates and mapping go to https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/Current-Incidents.

Goodwood Road will remain closed overnight due to smoke and fire concerns.

At 6.40 pm Tuesday 31 October Queensland Fire and Emergency Service issued an advice warning that the fire is not currently expected to impact the Woodgate township. People in Woodgate are asked to remain where they are. Major roads are being impacted, and Woodgate Road is expected to be closed. 

Education Queensland has confirmed Goodwood State School will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday 1 November.

Bundaberg Regional Council has opened the Childers Cultural Centre, Churchill Street as a Place of Refuge from 2.30 pm for residents and visitors impacted by the Kinkuna and Goodwood fires.

Warning level: WATCH AND ACT

Warning area: Properties between Kinkuna Siding Road, Burrum Coast National Park and Stockyard Creek including Sims Road

The fire near Gorza Road is still burning. It is travelling towards Smiths Road. If you left the area, it is not safe to return.

Firefighters are working to contain the fire.

What you should do:

– If you left the area, stay where you are. It is not safe to return.

– Stay informed:

– Keep checking the QFES Current Bushfires and Warnings website

– Follow QFES on Facebook and Twitter

– Listen to your local radio station.

If you stayed:

– If you have a bushfire survival plan, follow it now.

– Be ready to leave in case the situation changes:

– Charge mobile phones and power banks if you still can.

– Be ready to take your pets, pet food, pet lead or crate/carrier.

– Pack a bag with mobile phone charger, enough clothes for five days, important documents (like ID, insurance papers, passports and photos), medicine, cash and keys.

– Decide where you and the people you live with will go if conditions get worse. Plan how you will get there. Tell others where you are going.

– There is an evacuation centre at Isis Cultural Centre, 49 Churchill St, Childers.

– Avoid driving on Goodwood Road.

– Check road closures and traffic updates at the QLD Traffic website (https://qldtraffic.qld.gov.au/) or call 13 19 40.

– Move flammable items away from your house if you can.

– Watch out for firefighters working in the area.

– Do not fly drones around the fire. Drones affect air operations.

Impacts: – Fire conditions have eased but could quickly get worse.

– No properties are at risk.

– Smoke can make it hard for some people to breathe. – Smoke can make it hard to see when you are driving.

– Burning embers may reach properties. Try to put them out quickly with water.

– Roads may be closed or impacted.

Warning area: Properties between Kinkuna Siding Road, Burrum Coast National Park and Stockyard Creek including Sims Road

A dangerous fire is burning near Gorza Road. It is expected to impact Smiths Road very soon.

LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. Your life could be at risk. It will soon be too dangerous to drive.

If your life is in danger, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Firefighting aircraft are helping ground crews.

What you should do:

– LEAVE IMMEDIATELY and follow your bushfire survival plan now.

– Go to a place away from the Emergency Warning area. Plan how you will get there. Tell others where you are going.

– Check for road closures before you leave at the QLD Traffic website or call 13 19 40.

– If you do not have a safe place to go to, there is an evacuation centre at Isis Cultural Centre, 49 Churchill St, Childers.

– Wear protective clothing and stay hydrated.

– Keep medications close by.

– Stay informed:
