Bundaberg Region Youth Scholarship Award winner Anna Harris will use her award to get ready for university and access the technology she needs to succeed.
Anna is one of the inaugural scholarship recipients under the Bundaberg Regional Council award scheme aimed at providing financial support for youth from the region who are passionate about their education.
The scholarship program received 31 nominations with seven recipients awarded based on merit by an Advisory Group made up of representatives from Youth Services Bundaberg, Link & Launch, CQUniversity and Bundaberg Regional Council.
While Anna is currently a Bundaberg State High School year 12 student, Anna has already undertaken university level study through Central Queensland University’s Start Uni Now program.
Anna is enrolled to start next year at the CQUniversity Bundaberg campus through the STEPS program and will then progress to study a Bachelor of Primary Education.
Anna said the scholarship would help her with the next stages of her education.
“The scholarship will help me gain access to new technology to ensure that I am able to complete my university studies easier,” Anna said.
“My teachers inspired me to apply for the scholarship, they thought it would be a good opportunity to help me get a new computer for university.”
Anna grew up in Walkervale where she lived with her sisters and dad, and where she attended Walkervale State School and then Bundaberg State High School.
“I like living and studying in [the] Bundaberg Region because of the community aspects and career opportunities available,” she said.
With her sights set on becoming a primary school teacher, Anna is looking forward to being just as inspirational for her future students.
“I wish to have my own classroom and teach students and be an important role model in their lives,” she said.
