The annual Ladies Day Drive for members of the Bundaberg Four Wheel Drive Club was held over the Father’s Day weekend, basing ourselves at Mount Perry.
The idea of the outing is so the male members can have the day off from driving.
If you didn’t have a lady driver, you were fined, unless the male driver wore female apparel.
Some members donned dresses to add to the day’s entertainment.
The outing is a fun family day out and about, with fines being given for any indiscretions.
Any money raised on the day is donated to a charity which our club nominates each year.
Fundraiser for Cancer Council
The beneficiary of our fundraising efforts will be the Cancer Council. On average, one person is diagnosed with cancer every 20 minutes in Queensland. All of us know someone who is affected.
Cancer Council Queensland is dedicated to improving quality of life for people living with cancer, through research, patient care, prevention, and early detection.
Employees, volunteers, and supporters are at the heart of their work – to lead Queenslanders in a partnership against cancer.
The organization was established in 1961 as the Queensland Cancer Fund, in response to an increasing need for cancer-related services across the state.
They are celebrating 62 years of supporting Queenslanders, affected by cancer and employ about 200 people state-wide and have more than 1300 registered volunteers. Thousands of Queenslanders donate and volunteer for them each day, helping to improve cancer control.
Eight offices are state-wide and operate five accommodation lodges providing regional cancer patients with a home-away-from-home when they access lifesaving treatment services in Queensland’s major cities.
Whether you have been diagnosed with cancer or have a family member or friend who is affected by cancer, there are times when you may need support.
Their professional services and support programs are there to help you.
4WD club members enjoy Ladies Day
Our convoy of 12 vehicles headed out, traversing through a private property at Mount Perry.
The tracks had some testing sections which gave the ladies, that rarely drive, the added confidence to tackle terrains they would normally be in the passenger’s seat for.
Vehicles were put through their paces, some making it more easily than others.
A stop at the Federal Inn in Mount Perry for lunch had tongues wagging when some questionable fashion choices entered. Some banter from the patrons was had and in the spirit of the day well received, complementing us on our fundraising efforts and donating to the cause as well.
Prizes donated by ARB, Autobarn, Supercheap Auto, Bursons, the South Kolan Hotel and Burt’s Towing from Bucca went towards a raffle on the day, and the main prize went to the “Best Dressed” Jason O’Hearn.
At the end of the day though the main winner was the Cancer Council, with $400 raised on the outing.
