Old Bundy Tavern has reopened its doors with a fresh look after the popular drinking hole underwent major renovations.
Established in 1915 the Old Bundy Tavern is rich with history which was highlighted in the $1.69 million renovation.
The upgrade includes the restoration of the venue’s six spaces, with nods to the pub’s heritage throughout.
Old Bundy Tavern venue manager Kris Pain said they had respected the history and the heritage of the building.
“When you walk through our venue, you’ll see all the beautiful architraves and ceiling roses,” she said.
“To enhance it, we brought it back to life and just freshened everything up.
“So literally every space in the venue has been touched, refurbished and refreshed.”
Working behind the scenes to bring the vision to life Brownfield Operations manager Mark Westaway said the response from the community had been outstanding.
Mark said his team had incorporated a new mural which showcased the beauty of the Bundaberg Region.
“Just looking around the venue, all areas have been touched,” he said.
“We’ve done everything from our function room to sports bar, bistro and we’ve overlaid a new menu.
“We’ve kept true to what Bundaberg is and we’ve got a lot of that influence, as you see throughout the venue in all the spaces that we’ve touched on.
“I think the mural really highlights that pubs can still be fun.
“That it’s got soul – this venue, and I thought it was really important we kept that and I think we’ve enhanced that really well.”
Fun and heritage at Old Bundy Tavern
Kris said on September 8 – 10 the community was invited to a special welcome weekend.
“On Friday the focus is all about our locals and our tradies club, we’re going to do our usual tradie club barbecue but we’re going to make it really special,” Kris said.
“Saturday we are going to host an event upstairs in our big function room with some burlesque dancers, our buffet dinner and show package, which will be really cool.
“On Sunday, it’s all about the families and children.
“We’ve got face paint, a balloon twister.
“We’ve got an ice cream station set up for the kids where they can create their own exciting desserts and a bit of live entertainment all weekend too.”
As the new menu kicked off last week, venue manager Kris Pain said they had a focus on featuring fresh local produce.
“Our meat suppliers are local, The Beef Brothers, our fruit and veg is all local,” she said.
“We’ve got some key products where we’re featuring Bundy Rum like our dark and stormy glazed ribs and ‘parmigeddon’ which highlights seven different parmi flavours.”
