Bundaberg TAFE Queensland students are proudly putting their tradie talent, sparky sizzle and engineering excellence to the test at the WorldSkills Australia National Championships.
Local students Bailey Burt and William Zahn, both studying engineering, and William Richter studying electrotechnology have joined several apprenticeship students from the Sunshine and Fraser Coasts, who are all keen to showcase the skills and training they’ve gained over months of preparation and hard work at this hotly contested annual event.
Teacher of Automotive teacher Jeff Morris will be TAFE Queensland East Coast region’s first chief judge for motorcycles, while TAFE Queensland teachers of engineering and electrical qualifications Nev Wallace, Tasvir Singh, and Stephen Reeves are also be participating in this year’s WorldSkills competition as judges.
“As a first-time judge at this event, I’m really looking forward to seeing our students performing at their best and importantly, enjoy having their trade put under the spotlight,” Tasvir said.
TAFE Queensland East Coast region’s Faculty Director of Construction Trades and Building Services Jody Ridgeway said WorldSkills not only provided an excellent platform to showcase the skills and talent of TAFE Queensland students but it also enabled them to compete with the country’s best and brightest tradespeople and apprentices.
“Our trades students receive high-quality, industry-relevant training that’s delivered by incredibly experienced and supportive teachers and now through WorldSkills, they’re given an opportunity to represent their craft and put their individual skills to the test, bench marking themselves against others across the country which further drives skills excellence,” Jody said.
“As wonderful as it would be to see our students come home with medals, it’s equally important that they’re also able to develop friendships and industry networks that will last a lifetime at WorldSkills, and I could not be more proud of them.”
