Beautiful beach weather before cold change
Craig Holden says today the weather is expected to be unusually warm, before a cold change is expected overnight tonight, which will see the minimum temperatures start to drop once again from tomorrow morning onwards.

It has been a fantastic week of weather across the local region, with plenty of sunshine and blue skies, light winds, and mild temperatures during the day after a few chilly early mornings.

As we look ahead to today and across the weekend, there is more good news for beach goers too, with more great weather expected!

In fact, today is expected to be unusually warm, but there is another cold change expected overnight tonight, which will see the minimum temperatures start to drop once again from tomorrow morning onwards.

Today’s winds will be very light early this morning at around 5 knots from the W/SW before they gradually swing during the day to be from the N/NW (hence the warm temperatures) and increase to around 10 to 15 knots by late this afternoon.

A moderate, and cooler wind change will then arrive overnight, with 15 knots of S/SW winds expected tomorrow morning but they will ease to around 10 knots from the S/SE to E/SE through the afternoon.

Sunday will then bring around 10 knots of S/SW winds in the morning that will also ease during the afternoon to around 5 knots from NE.

Swimming: The swimming conditions have remained consistently good during the entire past week, and for the most part, we can expect more of the same for the coming days.

In particular, the mornings from today onwards will provide calm and flat conditions thanks to the offshore winds during that part of the day.

This afternoon may just throw a little glitch into the system, with moderate N/NE winds forecast that will make those north-facing beaches just a little bit choppy.

Aside from that but, we can expect great swimming conditions, with very little to worry about.

As mentioned, the mornings will provide the best swimming conditions while the winds are offshore, but that early to mid-afternoon period will also be okay when the tide is higher as well.

All beaches will be great through the mornings over the coming days, but for this afternoon, Kelly’s Beach and Elliott Heads will be slightly better.

Please check with the lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, and most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you.

Beach patrols: Today and weekdays – NIL

Saturday and Sunday – 9 am to 5 pm at Kelly’s Beach and Agnes Water only

Surfing: Well, the wave gods have gone back into hibernation this week, with nothing but flat and calm conditions greeting the board-riders for the entire week so far!

Unfortunately, the forecast for the coming days is not looking too much better either!

Perhaps your best chance of finding some sort of ridable wave could be through today – have a look early for a small mal wave at the usual locations, or else wait until later in the day at maybe Kelly’s Beach or Elliott Heads when the winds kicks northerly.

The weekend, however, is looking like being very flat once again!

For the SUP and ocean ski paddlers, there will be plenty of calm and gentle ocean conditions about through the mornings on which to enjoy a relaxing paddle.

But if you are looking for a downwind paddle, maybe consider this afternoon (north to south), or tomorrow morning (south to north), with not much more on offer.
