The Bargara Cultural and Community Centre is set to become a hive of activity for the 2023 AgTech Showcase, which will explore the latest developments in agricultural technology across two days next week.
Event coordinator David Wise said the program would feature a number of presenters and activities to keep members of the agricultural sector up to date with the latest news and information coming out of the industry.
“The aim of the AgTech Showcase is to share ideas and lessons learnt from the growth of the agtech sector in the Bundaberg Region,” he said.
“It will explore ideas that can be adopted or adapted to facilitate increased uptake of agtech while taking a glimpse into the future of agtech so we can start preparing to remain competitive well into the future.”
David said the Agtech Showcase was aimed at two primary audiences.
“This event is an opportunity for government and industry stakeholders to understand the progress and opportunities around agtech in the Bundaberg Region,” he said.
“Of course, the event is also designed to help producers generate ideas to improve their business and remain competitive, through agtech adoption.”
Over two days, from Friday 13 April to Monday 14 April, attendees will take part in Agtech demonstrations arranged by VegNet and Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers, learn more on the 52 trials conducted by the Hinkler AgTech Initiative and hear from industry leading speakers.

Paul Higgins
Futurist and strategist
Paul Higgins comes from a rural background having been a dairy cattle vet, pig vet, and a pig farmer.
He was a director of Auspork for 16 years.
In 2000, Paul returned to uni and studied for a Masters Degree in Strategic Foresight.
For the last 20 years, he has worked as a futurist across a wide range of industries and organizations, helping people to think about the future, while maintaining his strong interest in food and agriculture.
Professor Phil Brown
Team leader Hinkler AgTech Initiative
Phil is an agricultural scientist with a passion for working with agricultural industries to improve their productivity, profitability and sustainability.
He focuses on plant physiology and agronomy.
He works closely with industry partners to deliver practical outcomes based on an understanding of the physiological and anatomical basis of crop development.
Ashley Rootsey
AI & Robotics lead, Food Agility CRC
Ashley Rootsey is the AI & Robotics lead at Food Agility CRC.
He manages a multimillion dollar portfolio of agtech R&D projects exploring the applications of artificial intelligence, robotics and related technologies in improving the efficiency and sustainability of major Australian agricultural sectors.
Fiona Turner
CEO and co-Founder, Bitwise Agronomy
Fiona is an innovator, disruptor, and lover of technology with over 17 years of experience in new product development for ag, infrastructure, utilities, construction/asset management, government, banking, and manufacturing industries.
Fiona is also a farmer at heart growing up in rural NZ, coming from a long family history of farming.
She is the Co-founder and CEO of Bitwise Agronomy, an Artificial intelligence company giving insights to farmers based on easy and affordable GoPro imagery.
