Bundaberg residents are advised they may see or hear military operations over the next few days as part of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2019.
Exercise Talisman Sabre is coming to the Bundaberg Region, with activity focused on the Airport from Friday afternoon.
There will also be field operations at various sites on the weekend.
Residents can expect to potentially see military aircraft, vehicles, weapons and missile launchers.
There will be simulated firing on targets using HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System).
Defence says Bundaberg locals are encouraged to be alert to military activity during this time, but not alarmed.
“The Australian Defence Force’s ability to respond quickly to domestic and world events is a result of its high training standards and the activities conducted in and around the local area are integral to maintaining this standard,” Defence said in a statement.
“Every effort is made to reduce disruption caused by Defence training activities and we thank the community for its willingness to support and work with us during this time.”
The Talisman Sabre series is the principle Australian and US military bilateral training exercise focused on the planning and conduct of mid-intensity “high-end” war fighting.
It’s the first time that Bundaberg has been selected for operations.
The Australian Defence Force says there will be no impact on civilian air services at the Bundaberg Airport.
