It has certainly been a very warm and humid week for the most part, with some pretty good beach and swimming conditions thrown into that mix as well.
You should be waking up this morning to slightly cooler temperatures, and less humid conditions as well!
If the wind hasn’t changed direction by now, it should not be far away, with a S/SE to E/SE wind change forecast to arrive early this morning, which will help bring those temperatures down slightly and ease the humidity levels too!
There is also the slight chance of the odd scattered shower over the coming days as well, but maybe more likely tomorrow, so just keep an eye on the sky too if planning a beach visit.
Today’s winds will be light this morning at around 10 knots from the S/SE before they swing from the E/SE during the day and increase to around 15 knots.
Tomorrow should then bring E/SE winds at 10 to 15 knots (lighter in the very early morning), before they ease slightly by Sunday and back to around 10 knots from the E/SE through Sunday morning. They will then start to swing more from the E/NE through Sunday afternoon.
Swimming
Swimming conditions have been pretty good for the most part this week, with just a little more wind causing choppier conditions through yesterday.
As we look ahead to the coming days, we will see a wind change today that will be moderate at worst, but generally the swimming conditions should be quite reasonable across the weekend, after some slightly choppy conditions through this afternoon and into tomorrow.
The early mornings will be the best time for swimmers to hit the beach over the coming days, and probably through until mid to late morning – this is when the tide will be high and the winds lighter.
Beaches such as Hervey Bay, Agnes Water, Nielson Park and Moore Park will generally be the better locations, but by Sunday afternoon, Kelly’s Beach and Elliott Heads will also be worth checking out if those winds turn more from the NE as forecast.
Please check with the Lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, AND most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you.
Beach Patrols
Weekdays – 9 am to 5 pm at Elliott Heads, Kelly’s Beach, Nielson Park, Oaks Beach, Moore Park Beach and Agnes Water, PLUS a Rove Lifeguard operating in the Bundaberg Region
Saturday and Sunday – 9 am to 5 pm at Elliott Heads, Kelly’s Beach, Nielson Park, Oaks Beach, Moore Park Beach and Agnes Water, PLUS a Rove Lifeguard operating in the Bundaberg Region (Please Note: Operational Hours may differ at certain beaches, with patrol hour extensions from 8 am to 6 pm)
Surfing
Once again, there has not been a lot of joy for local board-riders during this past week, after a few fun days across last weekend and into Monday morning.
Looking ahead to today and across this weekend, the forecast does get slightly better for board-riders, but nothing that will get you super-excited.
With the wind change today, we should start to see a slight increase in wave heights through today and into tomorrow, but it will not be anything substantial.
The early mornings will be worth a look in the hope of finding some small, fun waves, or else from mid to late morning as well.
Agnes Water Nielson Park, Moore Park Beach and Mon Repos will be the better options.
For the SUP and Ocean Ski Paddlers, there may be enough wind through this afternoon and maybe again tomorrow for a south to north downwind paddle, and if not, the early mornings may be calm enough for a gentle paddle, or perhaps even a few small, clean waves.
Events
Good luck to our local surf lifesavers competing at the Oceans 38 Carnival at Dicky Beach (Sunshine Coast) tomorrow.
