Local businesses looking to begin or improve on their sustainability journey are being encouraged to sign up to the next Ecotourism Australia Certification Workshop.
The ECO Destination Certification program assures travellers that certified destinations are backed by a strong, well-managed commitment to sustainable practices and provide high-quality nature-based tourism experiences within the region.
Bundaberg Tourism, Bundaberg Regional Council and Ecotourism Australia have come together to facilitate a free workshop to support tourism operators on their journey to becoming ECO Certified with Ecotourism Australia.
The workshop will take participants through the key areas of the application process, the measuring systems and planning documents each business will need to prepare to be successful.
It will also give operators a demonstration of Ecotourism Australia’s practical, educational, and easy-to-use application portal.
Bundaberg Region Mayor Jack Dempsey said the workshop was part of Council’s commitment to ensuring businesses were equipped with the right knowledge and tools to gain certification.
“In recent times we launched Bundaberg Regional Council’s ECO certification incentive which aims to grow visitor economy and promote ecotourism,” he said.
“This is achieved by providing a 50 per cent cash subsidy to eligible businesses/operators to offset the first annual certification fee payable to Ecotourism Australia.
“The upcoming workshop aims to simplify the process of gaining certification even more.”
The Ecotourism Australia Certification workshop will be held on Thursday 1 December from 9.30 am to 11 am at the Bundaberg Tourism Corporate Office, Springhill House 36 Avenue St, East Bundaberg.
Participants who can’t attend in person are invited to attend online via Microsoft Teams.
