Goodwood Rural Fire Brigade’s Richard Greatorex was recently named the Bundaberg Region’s 2022 RFDS Local Hero Award winner, and there is just under one week left to vote for him to be crowned the Queensland Hero.
Richard is a founding member of Goodwood Rural Fire Brigade, and with only one arm, he has worked hard to overcome any barriers faced within his time.
He has saved many lives and properties in Woodgate and surrounding areas.
As the Brigade’s First Officer, Richard is also responsible for training his local crew to ensure they are well prepared for emergency situations.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is reminding Queenslanders to cast their vote now for nominees like Richard, who could be crowned the RFDS Queensland Hero for 2022.
RFDS (Queensland Section) Chief Executive Officer Meredith Staib said the annual awards, supported by Ergon Energy Retail, recognised extraordinary Queenslanders who go above and beyond to support their region.
“Supporting Queensland communities is a team effort, and we are immensely proud to be able to recognise this year’s regional Local Hero Award winners for Brisbane, Bundaberg, Cairns, Charleville, Longreach, Mount Isa, Roma and Townsville, for the unwavering support they provide in their communities,” Ms Staib said.
“Each regional winner’s story is showcased in a video package on the RFDS Local Hero website, where you can also vote for the person or group you would like to see crowned this year’s RFDS Queensland Hero.
“The individual or group voted the Queensland Hero will receive a $20,000 grant courtesy of Ergon Energy Retail to help fund a vital health or wellbeing program in their community.
“Voting closes on Tuesday 6 September, so head online and cast your vote today.”
