Faren Munro is a Taribelang man from the Jinjinburra Aboriginal Corporation who is sharing his culture at the Gin Gin Community Hub this week through a display of cultural artefacts and paintings.
He is encouraging the community to visit the centre and learn about First Nations traditional practices that have been around for more than 60,000 years.
Faren was born in Gin Gin and said the opportunity to share his culture with others was very special to him.
“A lot of culture is coming back and I feel very proud to share mine,” Faren said.
“My grandfather was not allowed to share his Aboriginal culture outside of his home and nor was my father until later in life.
“I think it is important to share and teach people of our Indigenous culture.”
Faren said he was thrilled to see people genuinely interested in learning about his culture and looked forward to sharing his story with more people during the week.
“It gives me great pleasure when you see the interest when you talk to someone about our unique culture,” he said.
“It is great to be inspired by the artifacts and their purpose and look at the paintings which tell their own stories.”
Faren’s display at the Gin Gin Community Hub demonstrates the different uses of Aboriginal tools and artefacts.
The display is free for everyone to view and will be showcased until Friday 12 August.
