Local rugby league player Noah Law will join the likes of Felise Kaufusi at the Dolphins, having signed a development contract with the NRL club.
The grade 11 Shalom College student will remain at Shalom until he completes grade 12, working closely with the Dolphins to continue to develop his skills.
Noah said he is excited to have signed the contract, looking forward to continuing to learn new skills while aiming to take his game to the next level.
“Rugby league is in my blood and I just love it, so I am very excited to have signed this contract,” Noah said.
“I am looking forward at getting better with my skills and learn as much as I can off others who are helping me through this.
“When I was younger I used to look up to Greg Inglis and now Latrell Mitchell, but I do not like comparing myself to other players, just look to play my own play.”
Dolphins NRL Head of Pathways Kurt Richards said Noah was signed after being identified as an emerging talent.
“In the short time we have been working with players up here in the region, Noah has shown a fair bit of talent and potential and so we are looking forward to continuing to work with him,” Kurt said.
“The contract is just a starting point for him, and whether he makes it or not will depend on how hard he wants to work.
“As our Head of Recruitment Peter O’Sullivan said, he is really well balanced when he runs and he has a good mix of run and pass and a great work ethic.
“We are really looking forward to having him as part of the club moving forward.”
Noah will continue to play under coach Neil Feather at Shalom College until he completes grade 12 next year.
Neil said it was a fantastic achievement for Noah having signed a contract with the Dolphins.
“With the Dolphins coming into the competition and showing a real interest in our area and signing Noah, it provides local kids the opportunity to remain at home while still striving for a professional NRL career,” Neil said.
“We have worked for a long time to get some pathways happening out of Bundaberg because we have seen for a while now kids leave Bundaberg as there are no avenues for them and instead relocate to Brisbane or Townsville.”
Neil said Noah had continued to work at being the best he could be and was looking forward to seeing what he achieved on the field.
“I am really proud of Noah, and while all of our kids have got stuff to work on Noah has gone away and worked hard skill wise and physically,” he said.
“It is a big effort and I am really proud of him.”
The Dolphin’s NRL club has formed a development partnership with Bundaberg organisation The Waves Sports Club which will provide extensive benefits for the Wide Bay area.
The partnership will fund the establishment of a full-time Game Development Officer who will commence in October, providing assistance at schools and clubs in the local catchment.
