Two Canterbury legends are spending the weekend in the Bundaberg Region to support local sport while promoting the upcoming Bulldogs vs Cowboys game.
Former players Paul Langmack and Jason Hetherington will be touring the region, visiting various businesses including Kalki Moon, The Club Hotel and The Lighthouse Hotel as well as taking part in local events such as the Waves Tigers Old Boys Lunch on Saturday.
The duo will also meet and greet with the community at the Waves vs Wallaroos match at Salter Oval and the Bundaberg Junior Rugby League Indigenous Round.
Paul said supporting local sport and community was an important part of his role and he was excited to be visiting Bundaberg again.
“I have been here numerous times and started coming up more than six years ago for the Bundaberg Cup,” he said.
“When the Bulldogs thought of coming here I thought, you beauty, I love Bundaberg.
“This weekend we will be promoting the game that is happening in a month’s time and the fact that the Bulldogs are investing in the region for the next three years.”
The duo have had their fair share of sporting highlights for Canterbury Bulldogs during their time.
Paul Langmack played 174 games from 1983 to 1990, including in three premiership rounds.
Jason Hetherington played 118 games for Bulldogs from 1994 to 2000 which included one premiership winning side in 1995.
Paul said visiting Bundaberg this weekend meant they could chat about the upcoming Bulldogs vs Cowboys match, to be held on Sunday 7 August, while spreading some positivity in the community.
“Having a high calibre match held in the region is such a fantastic thing, especially for the younger ones,” he said.
“You could be a 10 year old kid with aspirations to be an NRL player and now have the opportunity to watch or meet your idols.
“It gives the younger generation a dream to chase and who knows, they could watch the game and in 20 years time, end up playing for the Bulldogs.”
Paul and Jason will be available for public meet and greets throughout the weekend, including:
- Friday (tonight), The Lighthouse Hotel, 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm with Paul Langmack
- Saturday (tomorrow), Salter Oval Waves v Wallaroos, 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm with Paul Langmack and Jason Hetherington
- Sunday, Bundaberg Junior Rugby League Indigenous Round, 8 am with Paul Langmack and Jason Hetherington
The duo are in Bundaberg ahead of the Bulldogs vs Cowboys game which is set to take place on Sunday 7 August in front of an expected crowd of about 8,000.
