Aged care and support workers, emergency services personnel, carers and more are invited to attend an upcoming workshop aimed at exploring strategies to reduce disaster risks for older individuals.
Organised by Bundaberg Regional Council and led by the University of Sydney’s Collaborating 4 Inclusion team, the Community Conversation event will take place at the Bundaberg Multiplex on Wednesday 21 May.
The workshop will showcase the Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) Framework, a vital tool designed to enhance disaster preparedness for elderly people, First Nations Elders and those with additional support needs.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said it was an opportunity to have a community conversation about enhancing the safety and wellbeing of older people in emergencies.
“We are committed to ensure that disaster planning in the Bundaberg Region is comprehensive and leaves no one behind,” she said.
“Older individuals, particularly those with disabilities or chronic health conditions, face distinct challenges during disasters.
“We must develop plans that truly reflect the specific needs of our most vulnerable residents.”
The event is open to emergency service workers, aged care professionals, health workers, disability service providers, and community members.
