The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will extend the 60km/h speed limit along Burnett Heads Road from Milton Street to Ricketts Road with a view to improving safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
With the area experiencing strong residential and developmental growth, TMR undertook a review of the speed limit, taking into consideration a range of factors including:
- road function
- roadside environment,
- road construction standards,
- prevailing traffic speeds and,
- crash history
The findings were presented to the local Speed Management Committee, consisting of representatives from TMR, Queensland Police Service and Bundaberg Regional Council, which endorsed the speed limit change.
The new signs are expected to be installed by the end of March, weather and other conditions permitting.
TMR encourages all motorists to observe the new speed limit signage and to always drive to the conditions.
