Bundaberg Regional Council will soon be adding shade sails to more of the region’s playgrounds, giving families and visitors plenty of sun-safe options for outdoor activities.
Starting on Tuesday 25 March Planet Shade will begin installations at Laurisen Park in Kepnock, which will be closed until 3 April while the works takes place.
Bargara Views Estate Park will be next in line for shade sails, with the area closing to the public from 4 to 17 April.
Environment and Natural Resources portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the new sails were a vital upgrade for the community’s open spaces.
“We know how important it is for families to have safe and comfortable outdoor spaces to enjoy,” Cr Bartels said.
“These areas will join the likes of Apple Tree Creek Community Park playground, Gorman Park, Burnett Shores Park and Innes Park Reserve which all had shade installed within the past six months.”
Cr Bartels said families who visit the region’s coastal playgrounds would also be pleased to know shade sails that were temporarily removed for Tropical Cyclone Alfred preparations would be back up in time for the Easter school holidays.
“After the cyclone season, we’ve had the sails cleaned and repaired and upgraded the hardware, including adding extra security with safety chains,” Cr Bartels said.
“We’re aiming to have everything back in place before the school holidays so families can enjoy the parks during that busy time.”
Cr Bartels said the upgrades were just one part of a larger effort to provide better spaces for the community to enjoy.
“We really appreciate the community’s patience while these works are going on,” Cr Bartels said.
“These improvements will make a big difference for local families, ensuring our parks are safer, more enjoyable, and cooler during the warmer months.”
These projects are funding through the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.
Finally, the budgeted 2022 projects are nearing completion and now the waiting is over for the community to enjoy.
