Kepnock State High School invites the community to attend a music trivia night, fundraising to support their extracurricular Photography Club.
Bec Wolgast, media teacher at Kepnock SHS, shares more information about the event below:
Can you provide an overview of the event and what inspired you to organise it?
Trivia nights are very popular in Bundaberg and in general, so it seemed a natural fit for an educational institution to host one as a fundraiser!
What are the main activities or highlights attendees can look forward to?
This year’s event is a little different to previous years – it’s a Music Trivia night that is audio-based – there are six rounds of questions, a local band performing ‘Rock Wiz’ style, a photography gallery and a plethora of prizes, from lucky door, best dressed and raffles.
We’ve also partnered with our Home Economics department and school P&C to be able to offer cocktails and other beverages through our canteen.
There are some amazing prizes this year – its definitely our biggest offering yet.
How do you envision this event benefiting the local community?
This event is a great way for students, their families, staff and the local community to get together, socialise and compete.
Our extracurricular photo club contribute to their community every day, from their school population in taking photos for different events, social media and the school website, to the larger region as we liaise with the Bundaberg Regional Council for their Dogs Day Out community event.
Some of our students have regularly attended our photo club for the entirety of their schooling at Kepnock and we hope that they will take not only their skills, but their friendships and experiences, into their local neighbourhood and workplaces.
How can community members get involved or support the event?
Our local community can support our event by coming along and having a great time!
For bookings, please visit our social media page and scan the QR code.
The more people attending, the more equipment, activities & learning experiences we can offer our photo club students.
Are there any local businesses or organisations partnering with you for this event?
We have many local business partners who are sponsoring our event, with some supporting us for the past five years.
A lot of businesses are managed or owned by Kepnock alumni or by parents of previous Kepnock students, which is lovely.
A list of sponsors will be included in our promotional marketing of the event closer to the night.
We do have some VERY good prizes up for grabs this year!
What is the history of this event, and how has it evolved over the years?
Trivia Night is constantly evolving – the theme changes each year along with the questions – and we’re always looking for ways to improve the format or mix it up and keep it fresh.
Whilst this is the second year we’ve partnered with our Home Economics department; it is the first year that we’ve been able to sell cocktails and other beverages through our canteen.
It’s also the first music trivia we’ve ever run and the first time that a local band will be performing for us.
How can attendees stay updated on announcements related to the event?
Attendees can stay updated by keeping an eye on Kepnock SHS social media – we have an online trivia competition starting next month where attendees and the general public can play along with us to win a prize at the end of six weeks.
For table bookings, attendees can visit the event on Kepnock State High School’s Facebook page or Instagram and scan the QR code in the poster.
What is your vision for the event’s future — i.e. do you hope to make it an annual occurrence?
It has been an annual occurrence for the past five years and each year is getting bigger and better than ever!
We’d love for it to become a fixture in the Bundaberg events calendar, but we can only do that with the community’s continued support.
How do you hope attendees will feel after participating in the event?
We hope that people will leave the event energised, entertained and with their toes tapping and humming along to a tune – it’s a really fun night out for family and friends.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with the community about this event?
Come along and dress up!
Whilst in previous years it was BYO food and drinks, this year it is BYO food only as the bar will be open through the canteen.
It is an all-ages event but pub and club rules and responsible service of alcohol rules still apply.
We support drinking responsibly.
