Local singer-songwriter Keely Ellen is back in Bundaberg after powering through to the Top 21 on Australian Idol.
After impressing the judges with her rendition of ‘Always on my Mind’ during the audition phase, Keely went on to perform ‘Songbird’ and ‘First Cut is the Deepest’ before her Idol journey came to an end.
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn welcomed Keely home and thanked community members for throwing their support behind her.
“We are so proud of Keely and how far she got on this season of Australian Idol, it really is such an impressive achievement,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“She is a great example of our wonderful homegrown talent and we are thrilled to have had her represent the Bundaberg Region on such a big, national stage.”
Following an emotional and moving audition, Keely showcased her talent, and with it the region, to a nationwide audience before being eliminated ahead of the ‘Top 12’ phase of the competition.
She said she had enjoyed her time on the show.
“It was a really great experience for me, it was definitely different to anything I’ve ever done,” Keely said.
“To be a Bundy girl, being on Australian Idol is a big thing and the community support was really great.”
Keely, who released her debut single last year, said she had missed her hometown while she was away and was excited for the next chapter in her music career.
“I think I just missed being home in general – friends, family, everything about Bundy,” she said.
“The little lifestyle here compared to the big city is pretty different!
“Obviously my Australian Idol journey has come to an end but it’s definitely just the start for me.
“I’m working on some new music, playing some festivals and, of course, lots of local gigs.”
